Lupins from My Garden
From vegetation to architecture, from figurative to imagined imagery, Brigitte Bere’s work doesn’t disappoint those who know her work for her bold use of colour. From March 1 to 31, 2011, Artists on Elgin will feature a collection of new paintings, monotype prints, sculptures and vessels by local painter and mixed media artist Brigitte Bere.
“In this year’s show, I will feature watercolours, acrylics, drypoint and monotype prints, sculpture and pottery,” says Bere of her 2011 exhibit. “The flowers and fruit still-life have my usual bold colours, yet the monotype and prints are softly toned in contrast.”
Bere was born in Germany and has lived in Canada since 1976. A graduate of Cambrian College’s Fine Arts program, she has participated in several group shows in the north. Bere’s work resides in private collections in Ontario, Great Britain and Germany.
Bere’s acrylic work takes a highly realistic approach to painting architecture around Sudbury and Northern Ontario. There are also some figurative works included, some done from memory and other from her trip to her birth place of Germany in 2009.
Bere’s exhibit opens Tuesday, March 1, 2011 and will be on display until Thursday, March 31, 2011. The artist will host an opening reception on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Artists on Elgin is located at 168 Elgin Street, and is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
