Pot-Pourri - An Artistic Medley

Pot-pourri is most often thought of as a mixture of dried petals of flowers with added spices. The upcoming show at Artists on Elgin, featuring the work of Ellen Gorecki and Hermina Hubert will be a mixture of paintings, photography and craft.

The show will open on June 1 until June 23. On Saturday June 12, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the artists will be at Artists on Elgin to demonstrate some of the ways they approach their works of art.

Both women met early in life at elementary school and also went to the same local secondary school. Although they both went into teaching, Hubert went to the Ontario College of Art in Toronto and then taught in secondary school, whereas Gorecki went to North Bay Teacher's College and taught in the elementary system. During both of their careers a focus was always on teaching art. Both artists have always enjoyed the challenge of creating both two and three dimensional work in many media. Their enjoyment of the creative process brought them back together in later life.

Hubert works in pastel but her emphasis has always been creating “Wearable Art”. She recently joined the Walden Art Club as well. Gorecki recently became an honorary member of the Walden Art Club having served as President of that group for many years. She has been painting with watercolours since 1983 and has been teaching classes with that medium the last few years. Both of them are members of the Lively Heritage Arts Guild as they also enjoy doing needlework.

Both artists have been involved with Artists on Elgin for several years and enjoy working on the displays in the gallery in an appreciation of the creative works of their fellow artists. They hope their creations will inspire others to enjoy the challenge of expressing oneself in the process of painting, craft or photography.
